Bleeding Control Kits

Heidi Gilbert and JoAnn Seamans

Mothers Unite to Protect Children

These two extraordinary women, Heidi Gilbert, RN, and JoAnn Seamans, began a project in the fall of 2019 to raise funds for life-saving bleeding control kits that could be distributed to schools throughout north central Oklahoma.

United by the loss of their sons, Heidi and JoAnn formed a quick, but lasting, friendship. Mrs. Seamans has given nearly $8,000 to support the backpack program, and to date over $4,000 more has been raised through other donations. Mrs. Gilbert, a nurse educator, has led "Stop The Bleed" classes in several communities and has helped train other healthcare professionals to expand this program.

Distribution of the backpacks was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but as schools begin to re-open in the fall, Heidi and her team will be be teaching classes and delivering backpacks once again.

Each time a backpack is placed, a "Stop The Bleed" educational class is offered by Stillwater Medical staff. Here are a few images from some of those events.
