2023 Tin Cup Breaks Records
On Friday, September 22, Stillwater Medical Foundation hosted the sold-out 26th Annual Tin Cup Golf Classic at Stillwater Country Club. The morning started with a threat of storms, but after a short lightning delay players scrambled to their tees just in time for the sun to make an appearance for the remainder of the day. The event brought in 150 players from around the state to raise funds for a Level 2 newborn ICU at Stillwater Medical.
Plans for a newly renovated Women’s Health Center caught the attention of Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. Their Level 4 NICU is often at maximum capacity. Due to a small number of lower level newborn ICU’s in Oklahoma, there are babies that go to Oklahoma Children’s who need less critical care but are using a bed nonetheless. With this partnership, Stillwater Medical will be able to care for babies born as early as 32 weeks. Not only with they be closer to their family but it allows the most critical care to be available for those who need it most.
SMF’s golf tournament is one of the organization’s largest fundraising opportunities each year, and this year it broke every record. Raising over $92,000, the NICU is closer to becoming a reality.
Joe Akin coordinated the event with the help of SMF Board members, Lucas Grounds, Steve Ruby, Matt Streeter and Babette Goodwin. “We are grateful to each person who participated in making the event successful. We’re all here for the same greater purpose, to raise funds and have some fun!” expressed VP of Foundation & Community Outreach, Michal Shaw.
For the second year in a row, the Champion Team consisted of Derek Epps, James Miles, Russ Moyer and Nick Tanner. Players participated in on-course games such as a Hole-in-One, closest to the hole, etc. Members of Stillwater High School Golf participated in a game called, “High School Crush”. Participants could donate $20 for one of the team members to crush their ball.
