In cooperation with the Stillwater Medical Foundation, McDonald’s of Stillwater sponsored the Healing Through Art Contest. The competition invited Stillwater Public School students to create original artwork to bring awareness to the Stillwater Cancer Center Project. From 75 entries, first and second places were selected by a committee. Finalists of each division were also chosen by the committee to be place online for voting to determine a People’s Choice award. Almost 1,300 votes were cast. Congratulations to:
Grades 3-5: 1st Place- Taylor Longan, Highland Park Elementary; 2nd Place- Mallory Mason, Sangre Ridge Elementary; People’s Choice- Olivia Price, Skyline Elementary
Grades 6-7: 1st Place- Lenna Abouzahr, Stillwater Middle School; 2nd Place- Keegan Lucas, Stillwater Middle School; People’s Choice- Emily Robertson, Stillwater Middle School
Grades 8-9: 1st Place, People’s Choice-Elizabeth Edwards, Stillwater Junior High School; 2nd Place-Josie Bryant, Stillwater Junior High School
The first place winners each received $100 and chose a teacher to receive a matching award for classroom needs. Bri Ozment of Highland Park Elementary, Crista McCann of Stillwater Middle School, and Susan Yeager of Stillwater Junior High School were selected. Second place received $75, and People’s Choice received $50.
Stillwater Medical Center Foundation would like to thank Biff and Sue Horrocks, owners of McDonald’s of Stillwater, for sponsoring this unique opportunity for students to benefit the community.Scott Petty, executive director of the SMC Foundation, and Sue Horrocks, McDonald’s, presented each of the students with a certificate and their prize. The first place winners’ art will be printed onto greeting cards, which will be sold in the Stillwater Medical Center gift shop. Proceeds will go to the Cancer Center. The cards will also be used as a gift to thank donors.
